Why Creative Writing?

Hey there! You might be thinking, “My child already writes well, why do they need creative writing?” Well, let’s chat about that. Creative writing isn’t just about putting pen to paper; it’s an amazing tool to help kids become confident speakers, engage their audience, and think outside the box. By weaving storytelling into their communication skills, your child can become a more dynamic speaker, better persuader, and an imaginative thinker.

I Would Like My Child to Practice Speaking

We hear you! Speaking skills are essential, and it’s great that you’re keen on helping your child develop them. But here’s the thing: speaking isn’t just about what you say, but how you say it. That’s where creative writing steps in. When kids learn to craft stories, they learn to structure their thoughts, create engaging narratives, and convey their message in a compelling way. This storytelling ability translates directly into their public speaking, making their speeches more engaging and memorable. It’s like giving them a secret superpower to captivate any audience!

What Do Creative Speaking Activities Involve?

So, what exactly do we mean by creative speaking activities? It’s all about blending the art of storytelling with speaking practice. Activities might include writing and performing short stories, creating and presenting personal anecdotes, or even improvisational speaking games. These exercises help kids to think on their feet, build their narrative skills, and practice delivering their stories with confidence and clarity. By engaging in these creative tasks, children learn to captivate their audience, make their points clearly, and think creatively—skills that are beneficial

Activities in our Classes:

  1. Story Circle: Students sit in a circle and take turns adding a sentence to a collaborative story. We encourage them to use expressive body language and varied vocal tones to make their part of the story engaging. This helps students practice storytelling techniques and public speaking in a supportive environment.
  2. Character Hot Seat: Students take turns sitting in the “hot seat” as a character of their choosing. The rest of the class asks questions, and the student in the hot seat must respond in character, using appropriate body language and tone to convey their role.
  3. Monologue Mastery: Provide students with short monologues to memorize and perform. Emphasize the importance of voice projection, varied tone, and expressive body language to convey the character’s emotions and intentions. Offer constructive feedback to help them improve.

Incorporating creative writing into communication skills training is like adding a splash of paint to a blank canvas—it brings out vibrancy, depth, and a personal touch that makes your child’s communication truly stand out. So, let’s get those creative juices flowing and watch as your child transforms into a confident, imaginative, and persuasive speaker!
